White Cliffs visit boosts Five Ways to Wellbeing
Being a part of South Kent Mind’s many local visits can bring a boost to mental and physical health through the Five Ways to Wellbeing, as was seen when South Kent Mind hosted a trip to the National Trust’s White Cliffs in Dover recently, supported by our lovely volunteer Sharon.
The weather was warm and clear, perfect for a walk from the visitor’s cafe to the lighthouse, with stunning views and a lucky visit from a beautiful hovering falcon. After a good walk along the White Cliffs there was time to have lunch outside the lighthouse and time to get more social, especially for the new members would had the opportunity to get to know everyone a little more.
The group learned a lot about the natural environment and the fascinating history of the site. An informative tour of the lighthouse and Second World War archaeology amazed the group, and as a result, some members expressed an interest in volunteering to help preserve the historical sites for future generations and give something back.
South Kent Mind will be organising a volunteering taster day but there are already opportunities to volunteer on Thursday afternoons. As well as conservation work and restoring and maintaining historical buildings, volunteers are also needed to sort and price books to raise much needed funds. South Kent Mind would like to give a huge thank you to Grace for her fascinating and informative tour and to Mike from Touchbase Care for volunteering to drive us there.
