Supporters hot foot to fundraising event
Thirty supporters of a Kent mental health charity walked across 600 degC coals to raise funds for the cause.
More than £5,000 was raised for South Kent Mind’s mental health services in Deal, Dover, Folkestone and Hythe through the event, which was sponsored by Saga.
Simon Dolby from South Kent Mind said: “We are so grateful to the daring supporters who took part in the fire walk challenge to raise funds for our charity. This will make the world of difference to us and fund extra staff time to be devoted to support people in Dover and Folkestone needing support with anxiety and depression.”
Top fundraiser Lucy Golby raised £800 and won the right to be first across the fire walk, which took place at the Saga site at Sandgate.
South Kent Mind provides a range of services to support vulnerable adults, school services, low cost counselling and awareness raising workshops for the workplace.
Mr Dolby said: “The pandemic has been tough on all of us with a surge of people needing our services. We need readers to volunteer to stage fundraising events for us or to make a donation. “
