See what our creative writing group have been up to!
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, with this year’s theme being ‘Loneliness‘. Our activity groups aim to provide members with confidence and connect with other people. Sharing creative pieces can help you to boost self-esteem and others may relate to your words, helping to reduce loneliness.
We hope you enjoy reading these pieces by South Kent Mind member, Sally!
A peaceful place
Birds twitter in the trees,
Sun rays filter through the leaves,
A fresh, pungent, perfume of moist foliage,
Soft, mossy soil underfoot; spongy and springy.
An unearthly glow in the shade;
Sitting on the cool, damp rocks I remove my shoes.
I plunge my hot feet into the icy water and feel the squishy soil of the stream bed.
A shiver runs down my back!
I hear the gentle gurgle of the brook and the roar of the waterfall up ahead
Moist, sultry air – heavy, damp, warm,
The smell of rain all around me.
Sudden big drops fall from the branches!
Thunder rumbles in the distance,
Birdsong dying away,
The rains come with a deafening crack of thunder and a blaze of lightening!
Refreshing my sweaty skin,
Bouncing off the rocks and making round ripples in the water.
The trees rustle in the wind and the fading sun peeps out again;
Slowly sinking in a red-orange glow.
A Margate Seascape
On the outer side of the harbour arm,
The deep, dark blue – with a ship on the horizon,
barely distinguishable – the difference in the blues!
The waves lap the sea-wall, in the fresh, salty breeze.
The harbour bathed in brilliant yellow light,
As the tide washes clean the golden shore,
Leaving behind warm, shallow pools,
In the soft, squelchy sand.
As the sun starts to sink in a fiery, golden glow,
The pools sparkle like silver and the rippling waves have an unearthly sheen!
The windmills stand up, like soldiers,
Gleaming white against the deep orange , red and pinks.
People sit on the steps – Silent – Awestruck –
Breathing in the pungent scent of salt and seaweed
As the tide ebbs and the sun sets beneath the might of the sea!
And all is calm and serene.
Thank you Sally for sharing your work with us!
